Some of the more common questions our customers ask.

What information and/or documentation do I need to bring with my pet?

Chevron right icon

All we need is written verification of your pet’s current vaccinations that include the required vaccines listed below. Vaccines must be done by a certified animal healthcare professional (like a veterinarian or veterinary Technician/Assistant) and documentation of vaccines needs to be from an animal healthcare facility (like a veterinary hospital).

Required Vaccines for DOGS

PLEASE NOTE: WE REQUIRE A MINIMUM OF 5 DAYS BETWEEN VACCINATIONS/BOOSTERS AND ENTRANCE TO THE FACILITY. PLEASE DO NOT VACCINATE YOUR DOG WITHIN 5 DAYS OF THEIR RESERVATION FOR ANY SERVICE.

  • Distemper
  • Rabies
  • Bordetella
    • Bordetella is the kennel cough vaccine and is not part of most veterinarian’s core vaccination protocol, so you will need to double check or specifically ask for this vaccine. Please be advised that this vaccine is not 100% effective and although all dogs are required to be current, there is still the possibility of contracting this particular illness. It is very contagious, and its form mutates regularly, so anywhere your dog comes into contact with other dogs (even another dog walking past your yard on the sidewalk) is a possible exposure event. We also ask that you please have this particular vaccination done at least 5 days prior to your dog’s stay at Happy Trials, as they will shed the virus for several days and are contagious to other dogs during this time.

What do I bring?

Chevron right icon

Please bring enough food for your dog’s entire stay, as it can be stressful for some dogs to be in a new place and have different food. However, if you forget or otherwise can’t provide food, we do have in-house quality food (food provided by Happy Trails adds $5 per meal, per day to your daily charge). You are also welcome to bring a blanket, or a familiar toy (no rawhides, bully sticks or rope toys, please). Do keep in mind however, that dogs are usually happy to share with their neighbors and they may pass their toys along to someone else. So don’t bring any toys that you or your dog will miss should this happen. Any medications must be in the original prescription bottle as per Colorado State regulations. Please do not bring bulky or expensive beds, bowls, measuring cups or scoops. If possible, please bring food in a relatively small container rather than a full large bag or storage bin.

What time should I drop off my pet?

Chevron right icon

We are open from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM Monday-Friday and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday, but please have your pet here before 4:00pm Mon-Fri and before 3:00pm Sat-Sun if at all possible. This gives them a bit of time to get settled and comfortable, play a little bit and have a bathroom break before they go to sleep for the night. The earlier they come in, the better for them. It is also easier for us to be sure that they are set up and comfortable in their kennels when they arrive earlier in the day.

Billing works just like a hotel, so drop off day is charged as a full day regardless of the time they come in (another reason to drop off early!). Check out time is 1pm everyday, which means that if you pick up before those times that day is not charged, but afterwards it is considered a full day. And since doggie days at Happy Trails start at 6am, it really is a full day of care by 1pm. Please note you cannot replace a last day of boarding with daycare. All services at Happy Trails Pet Spa & Resort are currently charged separately.

How much play time will my pet get?

Chevron right icon

Playtime is included in the standard boarding price. Outside time is obviously affected by weather and the number of dogs present. They will get a minimum of 3 outings per day, usually ranging from 45 minutes to 2 hours per outing. As long as your dog is basically polite when playing the rest of the group, they will be included in those playtimes. However, we do reserve the right to use our judgment if we feel a dog should be removed from the group for their own or the other dog’s safety. If your dog is put on this ‘keep separate’ status there will be an extra charge of $5/day as this is much more work for staff.

Please be aware that boarding pets have their own separate playgroups outside of our daily daycare playgroups. If you would like your dog to participate in daily daycare while boarding, that is a separate fee that would be added onto your boarding stay.

Do you accept unaltered and/or intact dogs?

Chevron right icon

Yes, we accept them on a case by case basis. However, there is a surcharge of $10.00/day if your unaltered dog is 1 year old or older. This is because intact dogs smell differently, act differently, and play differently than their spayed and neutered counterparts. This makes it more difficult to control the arousal level in the yard during playtime. Please note, we watch very carefully and sometimes make the decision to keep intact dogs separated from the other dogs, but we cannot guarantee that an accidental breeding will not occur. Please also be aware that your dog's intact status could affect the amount of group play time they receive.

Females in season (in heat) will not be allowed to stay in the kennel and if they enter heat while staying with us an additional $25 fee will be charged daily until the pet is picked up. We do not house pregnant, nursing mothers or babies under any circumstances.

May I tour the facility and meet the staff before I make a reservation?

Chevron right icon

We encourage you to come by and observe the day-to-day activities and ask any questions you may have. You can also observe the dogs on our webcam system at any time. You do not have to have a dog here to do that; you may simply go to our website and follow the directions for webcam viewing. We are very proud of our facility and cannot wait to show it to you in person and in detail. No appointment is necessary; just drop by during business hours and we will be happy to show you around.

May I have my dog groomed before he comes home?

Please chat with the front desk at the time of booking or drop off to schedule a grooming appointment during your pets stay. All grooming appointments are scheduled based on current groomer availability.
